## What Lorah is

Lorah is a local-first AI workspace: a team of AI teammates on any provider, sharing one memory you approve, on your own computer.

In one paragraph: Lorah is a local-first AI workspace for people who use several AI tools and need their project context to persist. You build a team of persistent AI teammates on any provider, ask them one at a time or all at once in Rooms, review the memory they propose, and keep decisions, facts, sources, and provenance in a private desktop workspace. You bring your own API keys. Lorah is not a hosted model, a generic chatbot, or an autonomous agent platform; it is a workdesk for serious work that needs memory, review, and continuity.

Lorah opens in a conversation and stays there. There is no dashboard.

## Core capabilities

- **Persistent teammates.** Long-lived AI colleagues with a role, context, and accumulated memory.
- **Reviewed memory.** Facts, decisions, and glossary entries are proposed and approved before becoming project truth.
- **Provenance.** Every approved memory entry traces back to the conversation, sync, room, or document that produced it.
- **Rooms.** One question to several teammates at once; independent answers side by side; a decision on request. Or Work together: one speaks at a time and you steer.
- **Workspace Compiler.** At first run, give Lorah a brief (txt, md, csv, pdf or docx). It shows what it understood, then proposes teammates, materials and who should use them; you review and correct before anything is created. Runs on Anthropic, OpenAI, or a qualified OpenAI-compatible local model, not on Gemini, Perplexity or xAI. Lorah names the runtime and asks for approval before the brief is sent. Starter workspaces are the manual alternative.
- **Sync.** Lorah reads the team's conversations and proposes memory candidates into Review; nothing enters memory unapproved.
- **Review.** A single inbox for everything awaiting approval: proposed memory, room outcomes, task results, MCP write-backs.
- **Remember this.** Mark one of your own chat messages and Lorah drafts a memory item from it (Pro).
- **Multi-provider.** A single workspace spans OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Perplexity, and xAI. Local models through any OpenAI-compatible endpoint (Ollama, LM Studio), shown as unpriced.
- **MCP (Pro).** Lorah as an MCP server for Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code; teammates connected to external tools (Command, stdio, SSE). Before a teammate uses an outside tool, Lorah asks you. For a tool you trust, you can say “don’t ask again”. Anything that could delete or change data always asks.
- **Cost visibility.** A receipt on every reply that says how sure the price is, spend by model, teammate and surface, an estimate before a room or a decision runs, and a monthly workspace budget that warns at 80% (a banner across the app) and pauses at 100%, with Send anyway.
- **Document library.** Pinned reference documents teammates can read and cite.
- **Workspace export.** Take your data with you at any time, on every plan.

## Local-first privacy model

- Workspace data (teammates, memory, documents, conversation history) is stored on the user's machine.
- Lorah's servers do not host workspace content. They handle licensing and software updates only.
- The license and billing service (Stripe checkout and customer portal, served at `license.lorah.ai`) is separate from workspace data.
- Once a day the app checks the license; that check carries a random install id, app version, operating system, license type, and approximate country, never an IP address and nothing about the user's work.
- Crash reporting is off by default. If you turn it on, at first run or in Settings → Data & Privacy, Lorah sends short content-free reports: the error type, your app version and platform, and whether a sync succeeded or failed. Never chat content, memory, file names, prompts or API keys. You can read every queued report in Settings before it’s sent. Two further switches, also off by default: a redacted diagnostic snapshot, and linking reports to your install’s license.
- The user can export their workspace at any time.

## BYOK model usage

- Users supply their own API keys for the model providers they want to use (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Perplexity, xAI).
- Model calls go directly from the user's machine to the chosen provider.
- Lorah does not relay inference and does not add markup. The user pays the provider directly at provider rates.
- API keys are stored locally, encrypted via the OS keychain, and never leave the user's machine.

## Memory model

Memory in Lorah is **reviewed**, not automatic.

- Teammates **propose** memory entries: facts, decisions, glossary terms.
- The user can also propose one directly: **Remember this** on any of their own chat messages, or **Add memory** on the Memory screen.
- Proposed entries land in **Review**.
- The user **approves, edits, or rejects** each entry.
- Approved entries become durable memory, available to relevant teammates in future sessions.
- Each approved entry carries **provenance**.
- Memory can be **superseded** when a new fact contradicts an old one, or **rejected**. An item is always in one state: active, superseded, disputed, archived or deleted.

## Supported platforms and providers

- **Platforms:** macOS, Windows.
- **Platforms, in detail:** macOS 12 or later (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows 10 or later (64-bit). No Linux build yet.
- **Model providers (BYOK):** OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Perplexity, xAI. Local models via OpenAI-compatible endpoints (Ollama, LM Studio).
- **Runtime for internal jobs:** Sync, room decisions and the Compiler run on one runtime (Anthropic, OpenAI, or a qualified OpenAI-compatible local model). A workspace with only Gemini, Perplexity or xAI keys can chat but can't run those jobs.
- **MCP:** Pro; macOS and Windows.

### Business model

Lorah is free to download and use within the free-tier limits. No credit card or email is required to install and try the app. Lorah makes money only when users choose Pro. Lorah does not mark up inference, does not take commissions from model providers, and does not make money from token usage.

Lorah ships with three starter workspaces, each with a ready team, starter memory, and a first thing to try:

- **Lorah Pro** — $19 per month, or $190 per year (a $38 saving). Unlimited teammates, memory items, workspaces, and documents. Sync, Remember this, Rooms, background tasks, MCP. Fourteen days of Pro come with every install; when they end nothing is deleted and Lorah drops to Free. Upgrading happens inside the app, in Settings → License & Billing.

Lorah does not charge for inference. Users pay model providers directly.
